George Herbert Festival

26th to 28th September 2008

The Festival will take place in the beautiful, historical setting of the George Herbertancient border town of Montgomery, and the magnificent Powis Castle. Although George Herbert lived most of his life away from these parts, it is here that the early formative years of his childhood were spent. The celebrations will be an opportunity to capture a sense of that influence upon him.  Guided walks will begin at the ruins of the Castle where he would have looked over the The Ballroom, Powis Castletown with the dominant church tower of St Nicholas. Inside, standing in front of the imposing Herbert tomb, the figure of his mother, Magdalen, reminds us of the deep influence she had on her son.

Throughout the weekend there Richard and Magdalen Herbertwill be much to appreciate and enjoy reaching a climax in a celebratory service giving thanks for this remarkable priest and poet.
